PHI NAV Groundsafety, klingelts ?

What a wonderful tribute to an inspiring leader! We could sure benefit from "Herman the German"'s knowledge and wisdom right now!

I was a welder for GE at the Ontario Californis USA shop for 15 years back in the 1960's and 70's. I know how the J79 works. I never met Mr. Neumann even though he came to the Ontatio shop on accasions. I read his book and I wish that every high school student in the world could read it. It's very inspiring. I wish I could have met Gerhard as I think he was a great man.

In the early 60s, I had the good fortune to work with and for Gerhard in Seattle and later in Evendale, OH. It was inspiring to observe him, and his two dogs, walking the factory floor in the early hours of the morning, chatting with 3rd shift mechanics and observing firsthand their jet engnie assembly issues.
I had the good fortune to work with the US Navy and Air Force on application of the J79 engine to the F4 Phantom aircraft.
I had the further good fortune of being the lead test engineer for development of the TF39 turbofan transport engine, which also employs Gerhard’s patented variable stator compressor.
He was a colorful character much admired by all who knew him.

Als kritische Empfehlung: Mal die ARTE Beitraege vom 15. April 2010: "Starfighter -Mit Hightech in den Tod" (1-9) via www.youtube.com ansehen. Bes. Teil 8 u. 9! War nur F84-Mechaniker von 1960-1964, c/o JaboG34 in Memmingen, da gabs diese Probleme z. Glueck noch nicht.

Thank you for honoring a great aircraft, great engine, and mostly, a great pioneer of aviation. Mr. Nuemann was one of the most inspiring leaders I have ever met during my 25 plus years in Aviation. He was leaving GE as I was beginning my career with him and I had the great pleasure of meeting him and attending several of his lectures. We miss him here at GE Aviation.

I have incredible memories of Gerhard, whose mother Frieda was a sister of my own grandmother. More than an uncle, he was a brilliant light in my own future- the latter now also coming -having reached 81 years - to an end.
